Davide holding the slate while shooting the documentary about Squadra Corse PoliTo

Hi, I’m Davide.

Cinema engineer. I build my own tools for shooting and editing, and use them on my own productions and on other people’s.

I studied Cinema and Media Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. My master’s thesis, “From bidding to final cut”, asks whether an independent production can run a professional pipeline without subscriptions and without uploading scripts and interviews to someone else’s cloud.

An interview on set for the Squadra Corse PoliTo documentary

The method

For every phase I looked for the bottleneck and built a prototype: script breakdown, storyboarding and pre-visualization, smart slate and on-set markers, the footage archive, rotoscoping. House rules: open-source or one-time-licence software, local AI, every tool replaceable, OpenUSD as the common format.

The test bed

The test bed is a documentary about Squadra Corse PoliTo. In side quests I keep building things for the set and for post: a timecode generator, an OpenUSD converter, MoonRay for Blender.
