No subscriptions. No cloud. Tools built by the people who use them.
Davide Pace, cinema engineer. I build software, hardware and VFX pipelines for independent production, and I test them on my own films.

- Semantic footage indexing and story generation for documentary editing: hardware ingest, multimodal local AI on TrueNAS, proxy sync, and DaVinci Resolve 21 plugin with timeline assembly assistant.
A whole pipeline, with no subscriptions and no one else's cloud.
My master’s thesis at Politecnico di Torino, “From bidding to final cut”, asks whether an independent production can work like a studio. For every phase I found the bottleneck and built a prototype.
- Open source or one-time licenceNo subscriptions. AI runs locally: scripts and interviews never leave the machine.
- Every tool replaceableYou can swap one piece without breaking the rest of the chain.
- OpenUSD as the common formatAssets and scenes move from one phase to the next in the same open format.

Bidding
Before you can price a job you need a script breakdown. By hand it is slow, and the tools that automate it live in the cloud on a subscription.
Pre-production
Script, storyboard and assets have to pass between several people without losing versions or getting locked into closed formats.
Production
On set the information is fresh. It has to be captured there, not rebuilt months later in front of 40 interviews.
Post-production
The bottleneck is not the edit, it is finding the material. With 380 hours of footage, rewatching everything by hand takes weeks.

TheCatalogatuttinator
Semantic footage indexing and story generation for documentary editing: hardware ingest, multimodal local AI on TrueNAS, proxy sync, and DaVinci Resolve 21 plugin with timeline assembly assistant.

DubAID
Modular local video auto-dubbing pipeline: vocal isolation with MelBand-RoFormer, Whisper transcription, LLM metric adaptation, Fish Audio S2 Pro voice cloning, and -16 LUFS broadcast mixing.
TrackingAID
Camera tracking and virtual production system with ARKit/LiDAR iPhone capture, offline bundle adjustment solver on Mac, and Blender add-on.

Tested on a real documentary.
The documentary about Squadra Corse PoliTo, shot between September 2025 and October 2026, is the test bed for the pipeline: takes and markers logged on set with SmartSlate, footage archived and searched with Catalogatuttinator, which is now the tool I am using to edit the actual documentary.
- Interviews
- 40, about 45 minutes each

With the tools the edit takes less than half the time.
Side Quests
Tools and experiments built for personal utility, exploration and fun, outside the main pipeline.

Got a set, a pipeline or a department that needs tools?
I'm looking for work at VFX and post-production studios, software companies and independent productions.
